30 Minute Light Aircraft Flight

  • Expert instruction from your qualified pilot
  • Breathtaking views of earth and sky
  • Take the controls and pilot the plane during your flight
  • Can contribute towards flying time for a Private Pilot's Licence
  • Or just do it as a one-off for the sheer joy of flying!

If we were meant to fly, we'd have wings. We've got the Wright brothers to thank for the alternative - light aircraft. With this experience you'll get to fly a plane yourself - fantastic fun whether you're trying it as a one-off, or taking your first steps towards a Private Pilot's Licence. Your experience starts with your feet firmly on the ground and a briefing about flying techniques and safety. Then climb aboard your two or four seater training plane with a fully-qualified instructor. Each venue flies different craft but, with famous names from Cessna to Piper on the cockpit, you can be confident you're piloting the 'sports cars' of the aeronautical world. Next it's chocks away for your 30 minute flight, during which time (at the pilot's discretion) you can take the flight controls and experience the absolute joy of flying a plane. The feeling of control is brilliant, not to mention the breathtaking views... you'll never look at the earth in quite the same way again.

More information

Participant Guidelines: Restrictions vary according to venue. As a guide, the minimum age varies from 12 to 16, minimum height 4', maximum 6' to 6'6'' and maximum weight 14 to 18 stone. Some venues will ask you for name and address/photo id on the day for security reasons.
Weather: Flying is a weather dependent activity and it's essential that you call the venue for a weather check before setting out. If your flight is cancelled because of the weather, it will be re-booked for an alternative date or time.
Duration: Your experience will last for about 40 minutes, including your 30 minute flight. Flight times are approximate and are the chocks-off to chocks-on duration.
Numbers On Day: Your briefing might be shared. Your flight will be held on a one-to-one basis with the instructor.
Spectators: Spectators are welcome to watch you take off and land.
Dress Code: Wear flat-soled shoes. Bring sunblock and a hat in summer. Sunglasses are recommended all year round.
Availability: Many venues operate seven days a week all year round. Please note that weekends are particularly busy - please book several weeks in advance. During the winter months flights are usually run earlier in the day, during daylight hours.
Other Info: Your flying time can count towards a Private Pilot's Licence (PPL). To qualify for a PPL you need 35 hours of dual-control and 10 hours solo flying. If you have ever wanted to be a pilot, this is a great way to get started.
