The Honda Formula 4-Stroke championship is the most exciting offshore powerboat series in the world - these boats are responsive, manoeuvrable and so fast that they fly over the surface. You'll start off with a safety briefing and an introduction to the boat, then it's time to get changed into your safety gear and racing team kit. You'll head out onto Southampton water with an expert driver, usually a current or veteran racer, who'll put the boat through her paces while you hang on tight. You'll get tuition in how to handle the boat, and then about 15 minutes hands-on driving (at the skipper's discretion). The boat operates within Southampton Water and, weather permitting, out onto the Solent.

You and a friend will first be kitted out with proper mountain boards and a full safety kit, then it's onto the ATBA approved nursery academy for your lesson with a fully qualified instructor. Gliding is perhaps the most elegant way that humans can get airborne. It's a breathtaking way to fly, soaring on the same rising currents of air that the birds use, with no roaring engine to spoil the peace. Your experience includes around an hour in the air over two flights (or a single, longer flight over the mountains if weather permits), plus expert instruction. You'll start with a briefing session so that you'll know what to expect, before climbing aboard your dual-controlled glider with your expert instructor. Then the glider is towed into the air by a light aircraft (okay, this bit is noisy, but you have to get airborne somehow). Once you're at a height of around 2,000ft the rope is released, the aircraft peels away and you're free to soar and circle lazily in the thermal currents. You'll have breathtaking views of the countryside below you and the sky around you. And - at the pilot's discretion - you'll take the controls and control the glider yourself. Unforgettable.
