If you want to enjoy some hands-on activity, then there's always a job to do on board, from raising the sails to helming the ship, and the friendly crew will show you how it's done. He pledged that one day men and women from all walks of life with no prior sailing knowledge would be able to follow in his footsteps (well, in the wake of a yacht anyway) and the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race was born. Since the first sailors cast off on their voyage, 1300 men and women have competed in this unique race around the continents in some of the fastest yachts of their kind. Now you can experience what it's like to be part of the sailing team on one of these extraordinary 60 or 68 ft yachts, actively taking part and learning how to steer, handle sails and haul sheets. You'll learn all about life at sea from your captain and as you cut through the seas with the wind in your hair, you'll understand why so many before you have fallen in love with the ocean. Experience the extravagance of a luxury skippered sailing yacht. After a safety briefing on board the twin wheeled, teak decked 45ft Dufour yacht, you are given your sailing gear and lifejacket. Your yachtmaster instructor will introduce you to the basics of sailing, from hoisting the sails to helming, and may even teach you some sailing jargon. Depending on conditions, head out into the English Channel for some real open-water cruising, or go for a sightseeing tour along the beautiful Sussex coastline. If you're feeling energetic, why not put theory into practise and take an active part in the sailing. But if you'd rather, just sit back in the cockpit and let the crew do the hard work while you relax.
