It's time to try something completely different - a trip to North Yorkshire's premier falconry venue, to meet some birds of prey up close. This experience includes the opportunity for everyone to handle four different birds of prey, from an eagle owl to a falcon, and find out what makes a hawk a hawk, a falcon a falcon and an owl an owl. Once you're comfortable with the birds, you'll have the chance to fly some of them - there's nothing quite like the feeling you get when a top predator swoops in to land on your glove. You'll also go for hawk walk, where you'll learn some more about the basics of falconry. And why not take the opportunity to ask your knowledgable and friendly falconer some questions and have your pictures taken with the birds too. A light lunch for all back at the falcon barn is included.

This experience includes entry for four into the centre which, as well as birds of prey, houses many other animals such as huskies, reptiles, otters and meerkats to name but a few. After watching one of the various flying displays that take place during the day you will all get the opportunity to handle a bird of prey and will receive two family photos to take home with you. A sandwich and a drink for all four of you are also included.

Horse riding is a perfect way to spend some quality time together as a family - it's relaxing, exciting, refreshingly outdoorsy and a brilliant way to introduce the kids to a new hobby. Parents can even get involved. Novices and experienced riders alike will love this riding day. After being introduced to their ponies the instructor will teach the youngsters how to tack up before heading out for a half hour lesson within the grounds and an assessment of their abilities in order to best plan a follow up activity. Then the adults get their chance by leading their children on a hack (including walk and trot) in countryside or woodland (cantering is not permitted outside the arenas during initial visits). The children have an hour and a half riding time, followed by soup and sandwiches for all of you - riding can be pretty physical and there's nothing like fresh air to make people hungry! At the end everyone has the opportunity to groom a horse and maybe give it a treat to say thank you!
