They're lightweight inflatable catamaran hulls with racing engines attached, which makes them amazingly stable and secure, even at high speeds, round tight corners and in conditions from ranging from complete calm to large breaking surf (in fact, they were developed originally from life-saving surf rescue craft). Your experience will begin with a briefing on safety and handling, before you head out onto the water with your instructor. He or she will show you exactly what this fantastic craft can do - so prepare for the ride of your life as you speed along, pull tight manoeuvres and hit big air jumps. Depending on the weather and at the instructor's discretion, you might also get the chance to take the helm and try your hand at powering the Zap Cat across open water. There's a RIB powerboat on standby acting as a support boat, and you'll get a thrilling ride on this too.

Gliding is perhaps the most elegant way that humans can get airborne. It's a breathtaking way to fly, soaring on the same rising currents of air that the birds use, with no roaring engine to spoil the peace. Your experience includes around an hour in the air over two or three flights (depending on location), plus expert instruction. You'll start with a briefing session so that you'll know what to expect, before climbing aboard your dual-controlled glider with your expert instructor. Then the glider is towed into the air by a light aircraft (okay, this bit is noisy, but you have to get airborne somehow). Once you're at a height of around 2,000ft the rope is released, the aircraft peels away and you're free to soar and circle lazily in the thermal currents. You'll have breathtaking views of the countryside below you and the sky around you. And - at the pilot's discretion - you'll take the controls and control the glider yourself. Unforgettable.

But a helicopter flight is still something that very few people have tried - pretty much reserved for royalty and the super-rich. With this experience you'll join this select club (well, you'll fly in a helicopter, we can't make you a millionaire). After a briefing on flying techniques and safety, climb aboard a dual-controlled training helicopter, usually a Robinson R22. You'll be accompanied by an expert pilot, so you'll be in safe hands. The vertical take-off is astounding, and the thrills will continue as your pilot shows you how the chopper can move forward, backward, sideways or simply hover motionless in the air.
